Meet Coach Kat

Katherine started gymnastics when she was 5 and started cheering when she was 7. She began coaching gymnastics at the age of 16 and was a competitive cheerleader throughout middle school and high school. This built her path to becoming a Division 1 cheerleader at Charleston Southern University. There, she earned a CANAM national championship title and was awarded an MVP for 2010 CSU athletic awards. While in college, she continued coaching gymnastics and her own competitive team throughout, gaining vast experiences in every aspect of being both on teams and coaching them.
Poms and Ponies are both of her childhood dreams brought together. Through horses and cheer, she found how to express all sides of herself. The grit and the grace that it takes to show up whole heartedly in both of these very different worlds, offered her the ability to build this bridge for other little humans with the same sparks in their own hearts.
When asking Kat what she thinks the most valuable thing is that kids gain from the Poms and Ponies camp, she says, “I want to teach them true self empowerment, centered in love and honest support for one another. Cheerleading isn’t some exclusive club, the essence of cheerleading is the ability to LEAD. I want them to know how to do that with love in their hearts, both for themselves, and the others they are cheering for, both on the mat and on horseback.”
